okay! im here to update my dead blog. Actually i dont find blogging fun at all.. i will only update when im dang free.. and ya.. gabriel tat bitch keep telling me to update.. so here it goes...
what happened the past few days? omgggg, and ya, i bet all of you dont need to think and will know that im gg talk abt band again. oh well, im just a band freak.. cant really blame me =(
on 12th april, we didnt make a history. we couldnt defend our title as the defending champion for the sixth consecutive time. Deyi band had won, and they really won the BDB award fair and square. So ya, we accepted defeat graciously and took it in our stride. it was really a painful experience.. to hear the announcement of results was such a torture to Team TK and the members themselves. my eyes were already brimming with tears when it was announced that the Best Drum Major award goes to Joshua from deyi. this time round, they have put up a good show. A show that made everyone went "Wow!" they had so many "Wow!" factors in their display which beat us flat. Deyi didnt win by sheer luck. and yes indeed, it was really a close fight between TK n Deyi as there was a slight deliberation for about one hour plus among the judges to decide which band really deserves to be the display band of the year. Some judges actually DID prefer us as our music has impressed them. Tk really sound gd in music during that 8min performance, and the credit goes to the members who have worked so dam hard for it :) and believe me, its tough to teach the "kids" about their music, esp when u must integrate indoor style of playing into an outdoor display on an exposed field. Our band has always been working towards this objective, and im glad to say that we somehow have achieved 80% of that. Music wise, we killed all the other bands with pieces like nessun dorma which is a very tonal piece and turandot which potrays the imperial grandeur of the China's Forbidden City. Two years back was a Russian experience while this year was on China. Winning an outdoor competition is not an easy feat, whats more for a band being a defending champion for a decade? Daunting task it might seemed to be, and yet we were able to overcome all obstacles and pyschological barriers, and finally managed to get BDB once again. This year was different, did anyone question themselves why?
Yes i did, and i bet every single band member who had stood under the scorching sun for long hours and still kena scoldings from me did question themselves too. The kids(band members) were crying their hearts out over the results at the national stadium on that unfateful day including me. Tears were gushing out from my swollen eyes non stop too esp when i see the kids crying lik mad while doing their last repertoire in front of the school. We can only see the true feelings developing from the TKsians during hard times lik this. The whole school stood infront of a band of which the members had their chins hanging high up with tears rolling down their cheeks. How touching can that scene be? Even non-members could feel the pain from us and cried together with us. Now, all of us had this burning question in us, what exactly went wrong? It was such a painful experience to taste defeat. now then i really know the feeling of getting defeated. its definitely worse than anything esp when i reflected back at the past on how much ive slogged my guts out, putting in 200% effort and hardwork for this year's competition as an alumnus. the feeling sucks.. totally sucks to the core.. the last time i cried that hard was during last year's indoor competition when we got a silver back home. I was the soloist for both pieces during indoor syf. it was definitely a tough experience but i do enjoy it. im from the 2007 batch which has tasted the feeling of getting defeated once and experienced victory for three times. we won the BDB in both outdoor comps which ive participated as a member. not to forget, we won a gold for indoor syf when i was in the comp group back in 2005. however, the downfall of the band came about last year. and tats e reason i cried that hard since i only know the feeling of winning but not losing. Pls do say that im someone who only WANTS TO WIN when it comes to band. This value has been inculcated in all band members by their majors when they were so called the "noobs"(sec ones) in band. having said all these, i just want to illustrate the point that the fact that we lost is really hard to accept. Nevertheless, we should learn lessons from it and move on with life. And yet, when we come back, its a BRAND NEW TKBAND ready to strike up at the back of the field in whichever stadiums.
The moment we reached the sch after leaving the grand lady for the last time, everyone was asked to go auditorium for the viewing of the videos. the kids watched their very own performance shown to the judges earlier on in the afternoon. oh well, i shouldnt elaborate on how their faces were like after watching their own performance. they all should know. The tranquilness in the auditorium was really unbearable. i was still weeping silently, just because i couldnt accept the fact that we actually lost. next up was deyi's perf. we watched it.... and we were like.. wow? so ya.. nothing much to say here too. Thereafter, the kids knew and accepted the fact that all of us lost. The question was somehow answered in their own hearts.
Maybe we were too complacent. People tend to take things for granted especially when it seems to people that this certain thing comes naturally without having to put in any hard work. An important lesson has been taught here. Somehow, ive got the feeling that although we lost this time round, it might just be a blessing in disguise if we were to look in the future. The kids do have a desire in them now. A desire to win, the TKBAND's magic, our undying fire and spirit actually came back after we lost. hopefully all these will sustain through another one and a half years to the next oudoor in year 2010. thats the reason why i am SO looking forward to that year. We shall create a new wave in the future.
On a lighter note, i wish to thanks alot alot of people. First thing first, i want to thanks the current outdoor batches from sec ones all the way to the sec fours. they were really a wonderful lot except some who can be kinda irritating at times -_- hahaz.. but well, it was definitely a great experience working with all the band members for the past five months. well, teaching them their music and field stuff can be quite a blood-vomiting job =X hahazz.. next, i want to thank the Sec fours who have been trying their best to step up. they have really done a great job and deserve some applause from us.
